In early October, I got both kids to finalize their costumes. Sloane really struggled and I had to break it down into categories to refine the decision- animal, object, person. She threw object out immediately. And then she came up with a mash-up: princess-unicorn-kitty-dog-bunny.

On the other hand, Soren knew he wanted to be a caterpillar. I thought I could make a puffy green costume. But Soren had a particular caterpillar in mind from a strange insect book- the puss moth caterpillar. I found some base layers and then bought some fabric to add on. He had more opinions this year on the construction than last year. But he had some constructive input with the hood part. I think it came out well and he was happy.

Carving pumpkins was really fun! Soren and Sloane both got the hang of using the little saws for carving and were creative with their designs. But they still aren’t fans of the cleaning out part.

Our neighbor arranged a costume parade again this year on the weekend before Halloween. It was dry and fun to see the neighborhood kids all dressed up. On Halloween, it was SO rainy and soggy. The kids enjoyed trick or treating but didn’t have the stamina they did last year when it was dry. Soren wouldn’t even go to the last two houses because he was so wet. The kids did enjoy handing out candy for a hour when we got home. Sloane would grab the bowl of candy and Soren would shine his light in the bowl so people could see the candy options.
